  • Reflection of 2008

Can you believe the year is almost over? My, I feel as though we've only begun.  And to think, a year ago I started planning my departure with Canon and my new assignment with VOICE.  So much as changed since then....we've fallen into a recession, I'm still unemployed and everyone and their moms are getting married (okay not everyone but it sure feels like it).

I've spent the last few days, weeks, actually months cleaning and purging.  It seems as though I never get anywhere.  I tend to make an even bigger mess before I'm able to get things down to what I am actually using.  I find it very difficult to stop spending the money I don't have to get things I don't need =P  story of my life!  But I must confess that I have been very good.. probably because my ass is unemployed and I have no finances coming in!  However, I need to secure something by end of January

    Options:
             1. Go back to Canon (as San Diego, LA and OC do want me back).
             2. Work for Starwood (Westin, W, St Regis Hotel Chain) doing front desk so I can get my foot in the door and hope for quick promotions.
             3. Continue looking and prey that I find something which excites me
             4. Go back to school and get my MBA

Grrrrrrr... since I've been such a bum and have been leeching off my parents for free rent and food; I decided to buy them a 46" LCD HD TV for Christmas.  I used the points I had saved from my Canon days and got them the gift.  Along with the tv, I bought a new console from Costco that looks oh so georgeous....I'm sure they are happy but of course they gave me an ear full before enjoying their new gift.

So I have been doing ALOT of cleaning..........really I have and came across a bunch of old things: pictures, letters, articles, scripts, books, etc that brought back fond memories....throwing it away was almost difficult... but I told myself I must, since I"m such a pack rat...

I need to continue purging, especially my closet and random stuff that I have.  Also, for the New Year here are my resolutions:

    10) Pick up old hobbies and master them (i.e. sewing, knitting, drawing, painting, poetry, etc)
    9) Find a Job
    8) Stop buying things I don't need (this is a really hard one because I love shopping and love bargains)
    7) Pay off at least half my debt
    6) Cleanup and purge my things (I have a lot of stuff)
    5) Keep in contact more with people (I've been really bad at this)
    4) Spend as much time with family as I can
    3) Be nice and thankful for what you have (I feel I've been very unpleasantly lately)
    2) Study for the GMAT (might as well take it and save it for a rainy day of anything)
    1) Be happy and take extra long vacations to rejuvenate!

I just want to say that I'm very thankful to have the friends I have in my life, the family members who care enough to yell at me on a regular basis and the experiences I have experienced this last year.  I hope that 2009 will be filled with more joy, more happines and so much love that you don't know what to do with!

For those who don't know I will be gone for most of DEC..so I'll either see you this weekend or in 09.  Take Care and Happy Holidays....

  • New Direction

I've been to San Francisco a few times lately and have to say that the city is warming up to me.  I've done a lot of walking this past weekend; it's breath taking... The dynamics of the people, the Victorian architecture on every block and the ability to get from point A to point B without having to have a car.

It was once said that the coldest winter I've spent was a summer in San Francisco and to this I must agree.  But it can also be extremely beautiful... the wind blowing in your face as you walk miles through a city full of hills.  hahhah... great exercise I must confess.. something I need to work towards, since it's suppose to be good for you.

Who knows, maybe my next residents will be San Francisco.. There's so much this city has to offer and I should take the challenge and push my ambition towards new goals...

  • Traveling Guru

The New Year has brought on New Adventures, New Friends and a New Beginning.  And yes, I'm referring to the Vietnamese/ Chinese  New Years.   This year, it landed on February 7, where I spent some time in Palawan visiting the Vietnamese Village as well as one of the islands in the Philippines where many of the Vietnamese refugees resettled.  I enjoyed great company, good food and an 8 hour bus ride cram with 60 people for a 30 seat vehicle up to El Nido.  What has been raved as one of the most beautiful locations and compared to that of Ha Long Bay; I truly disagreed and would have to say that Ha Long Bay brings more mystery and natural beauty then that of El Nido.  We spent days visiting the beaches, visiting our clients and nights drinking, partying and being silly.  It was great times... One of the more memorable moments since I've been in this county.  I was in Palawan for almost a week starting the 6th of February....Some photos for your enjoyment....

My next destination took me to Tagaytay, a mountain region 1.5 hours outside of Makati, Manila where fresh air exist, beautiful greens were present and the opportunity to ride a horse for the first time was an experience to remember.  The first weekend we went up was Feb 15-17 where we visited the Moon Garden, showered with the view of a volcano, greens and lake in front of us and indulge in the lifestyle of beautiful architecture and serene surroundings.  It was breathtaking indeed... even just for a moment.

The following weekend Feb 22-24, we were asked to return to Tagaytay and prepare a 10 course Vietnamese menu for 24 of the owners closes friends at the Moon Garden.  It was hectic, tiring but all in all fun for all of us to experience.  I had the opportunity to wear an Ao Dai which i miss wearing.  I enjoyed it a great deal and hope that the rest of the staff enjoyed it too.  Here we went to visit the volcano, rode a horse to the top and got haggle for our payments coming back.  Too bad for them, I'm a professional when it comes to winning arguments =o)

February 29-March 2nd weekend was spent catching up with guest in town, saying good bye to staff and clients.  No traveling for this weekend was absolutely crucial to refresh and restart.  It was a crazy weekend of outings, eating, drinking, dancing, doing pushups, shooting pool and lots of walking.  Photos will be posted when I write more about my non travel weeks.

The following week March 6-March 13, I visited Vietnam and Cambodia.  Vietnam was fabulous where I attended numerous exclusive parties in Saigon and enjoyed the company of good friends.  Cambodia was necessary for a possible next project and a definite opening of VOICE to focus on human sex trafficking of women and children.  It was another crazy weekend with meetings booked one right after the next starting as early as 8am and ending as late as 9pm.  However, all in all; I enjoyed it a great deal and am glad I had the experience of revisiting my country and exlporing a new one.

The weekend of March 14-16 was a time to recuperate from my week in Vietnam and Cambodia.  Another weekend to say goodbye to yet another staff and also to enjoy the company of new friends that I met.  It was a good weekend filled with dining, karaoke, dancing and relaxing......

March 20-23, Easter weekend, I set off again to explore another island of the Philippines; Mindanao...Where I spent my time in Davao with a few clients, went to the beach, explored the mountains and just enjoyed a relaxing weekend away for the bad Manila air and traffic...For the first time I enjoyed my favorite fruits Rambutin and saw a Mickey Mouse Tree (photo with yellow tree).  I brought back with me 40 kilos of fruits which ranged from rambutin, pomelos, jackfruit, durian and a few avocados.  It was lots of fun, with delicious fruits and great hosts....

     IMG_6232 IMG_6300 IMG_6238 DSC00301 DSC00286 IMG_6337 IMG_6445

March 28 - March 30 was another weekend of rest and hanging out with new friends.  Of course during these time, extra work is sometimes needed and the best thing for me was the opportunity to lounge on a couch.  I even got to shower at a proper shower with a shower head and hot water!  Oh it was divine!!!

April 4-5 Weekend I explored another area of Philippines which was a 2 hour ride.  Batangas, a beach area up the cost of manila.  We sat out on a house boat, got hennas, and enjoyed fresh seafood that was properly bbq.  It was nice indeed....

    IMG_6452 IMG_6448 IMG_6468 IMG_6473 IMG_6457 IMG_6476

April 11-13 another rested weekend... We were preparing ourselves because we would lose our great cook.  Her family got approved and was getting ready to go to Canada.  She adored me so much that everyday she would make one of my favorite dishes.  To top it off, we had steamed crab, bbq prawns, chicken salad with onions and herbs on the last meal.. It was scrumptious!

April 18-20 I travel to Hong Kong for the first time.  It was definitely a memorable experience, loads of fun and very eventful.  I survived a category 3 typhoon and was wet from head to toe.  Shopping was short because of the weather but still it was great fun!

    IMG_6569 IMG_6560 IMG_6549 IMG_6519 IMG_6490 IMG_6575

Apri 25-27 is another rested weekend.  I finally found Mexican food.. granted it's no where near the places I've eaten at in San Diego; but it's better then nothing.

May 1-May 4, I explored another country with 13 and 1/2 other individuals I've met recently.  Why 1/2? Because we had one of the couples son accompany us... he's just absolutely adorable.  It was wonderful because the couple is from Taiwan so they planned the entire trip.  We explored the farmland the first night, the mountainside the second night and the city life the third.  I drank one of the best teas I've tasted ever, had my very first hot springs experience and attempted to fish for our own prawns for lunch.  I found a shop with my name Thi Pho and almost got lost in the crazy night markets.. I tried a lot of new things and realized that shopping in Taiwan isn't that cheap after all.  It was great going with a bunch of people who knew the language and knew where to go and what to do..

    IMG_6854 IMG_6884 IMG_6924

Next destination?  perhaps Singapore, perhaps Cambodia and if I'm lucky South Africa ;o)

It's been great having the opportunity to explore new places and meet new people... I'm definitely enjoying myself and enjoying the new friends I've met.  If it wasn't for all of this, I don't think I could spend much more time here in the Philippines because it's just not my cup of tea... Till my next adventure.. I hope you guys all enjoy the short excerpts of my trips...And again, sorry for taking so long to write..

  • WHY ---Tinatran80 blog---

THIS IS A BLOG TAKEN STRAIGHT FROM TINATRAN80... Thank you Tina and hope you don't mind.

    **********************************************************

Okay, so I'm making this observation based on a Chinese movie, though I'm sure it holds true for "real life" situations as well. I'm currently drowning myself in a movie called Cuoc Tinh Mong Manh. It actually makes me sad watching it, yet I'm still glued to it. I get sad because I know these situations are true... somewhere out there.

It's a fact of life, quite disturbingly so, that people cheat. It's quite saddening when I see significant others cheat on one another. I mean the point of a relationship is to allow yourself to trust another and to be vulnerable to that person. If you don't really care for the person, or don't really want to be with the person, why tie yourself down with the person? If you see no future with this person, why waste your time, and especially theirs?

I am disturbed by individuals that cannot make up their minds. I've seen a number of individuals juggle between one or more people. The reason I include juggling when speaking of one person is because the person refuses to give a clear cut answer to the other: they tie the person onto a yo-yo and pull on the string when they feel the need to have someone by their side. I've seen a number of people "stuck" choosing between two individuals. The reality of it is that they're unwilling to choose because they're unwilling to lose anything or anyone. This indecisiveness is usually seen in the individual's everyday choices as well. Why can't people make choices and stand firm on them? Mainly because they're afraid of making a bad choice. I think we all have that fear, but we all need to overcome it and learn to be responsible for our own actions, or lack thereof.

People are rather odd; "good girls" always want the "bad boys," while the "bad girls" always want the "good boys." It's quite interesting to see. The "good girls" are usually bored to death in their orderly life, and want that "bad boy" to bring some spark to their lives. Even if they know this bad boy will bring pain, tears, and stress to their lives, they still choose the bad boy over the nice guy. Why? I have no damn clue: I chose me the nice guy.

Okay, so that's my yearly rant. LoL. Hopefully I'll remember more to blog more. I can't seem to formulate my thoughts to write a complete blog.

    Peace.

    [/add]

I really can't stand when people (usually women) have a gut feeling (or have been told by friends) that their significant other is cheating on them and turn the other way. If it is not seen, it never happened, right? Wrong. Turning a blind eye to reality doesn't make it go away.

And what's worse is when the cheater is caught... one of two things usually happen: the cheated hates the "third person" even if that person was lied to as well, or the cheated is stupid enough to fight the "third person" in order to keep the cheater. Dude, let that asshole (or bitch) go already. Respect yourself and get the fuck out of that situation. Sorry, I really can't stand when people disrespect themselves. Grow some balls, stand up tall, and walk the fuck away. The end.
